A study from Sweden shows why
venereal diseases are often difficult to cure. The authors showed that almost 70
percent of people infected with mycoplasma were not cured by doxycycline, but
all were cured with azithromycin. Doxycycline is the first line antibiotic to
treat many venereal diseases, including the most common one called chlamydia.
People with venereal diseases are difficult to cure because they often fail to
take their medication as long as they were told, or they go back to the same
partners who gave them the venereal disease in the first place.
Anyone with burning on urination,
a feeling like they have to urinate all the time and urgency when their bladders
are full should be checked for venereal diseases. Even if no laboratory test
reveals a cause, symptomatic people exposed to a venereal disease should be
treated at least with a long-acting erythromycin-type antibiotic.
Tetracycline treatment
